What is date rape?
Rohypnol (or Roofie) and Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) are the most commonly known ‘date-rape’ drugs. They can be odourless, colourless and tasteless. They also leave the body within a short amount of time making them hard to detect.

GHB (gammahydroxybutyrate): LIQUID ECSTASY, GEEBS, GBL, GBH, 4-BD, 1 : Salty-tasting clear fluid or white powder that is easy to make at home. Acts as a muscle relaxant and causes short-term amnesia when taken with alcohol. It produces a feeling of euphoria, reduce inhibitions and drowsiness. The effects start after about 10 minutes to an hour and can last for up to seven hours or so. Because GHB can really knock you out, it has been linked to drug assisted sexual assaults.
KETAMINE : VITAMIN K, SUPER K, SPECIAL K, K, GREEN, DONKEY DUST : A white powder that is mostly used on animals. It can cause a catatonic state and short-term amnesia. The effects do not last long, but until they wear off, ketamine can cause a loss of feeling in the body and paralysis of the muscles. It can also lead to you experiencing a distortion of reality/ hallucinating. You can 'trip' for between half an hour to several hours, and the after-effects may be felt for some hours afterwards.

1. Place a drop of your beverage onto both spots of one test.
2. Smear each gently, wait until dry.
3. If either spot turns to a darker blue color see back the test strip for further instructions.

How the test strip is performed:
It takes the activation of both test spots in one test character to fully test the beverage in question. make sure both test spots are dry, and free on condensation from the drink container. Place drops of the beverage to be tested onto each spot using a swizzle stick or even one's finger. Rub, gently. Do not mix the chemicals from each spot together. They should remain separated for best results. Wait until dry.
The test strip can take a few minutes to dry and get a result, be patient. If either spot turns to a DARK BLUE COLOR, a positive test result has occurred. many colored beverages will impart a slight hue to the test spots, this is not a positive result. Tap water and certain mineral waters may impart a transient blue hue to the test spots while the test is drying. this is not a positive result, and should dissipate when dry. When in doubt with any beverage, always discard. Always use common sense and NEVER LEAVE DRINK UNATTENDED. NOT TO BE USED WITH ANY MILK PRODUCTS, OR BEVERAGES CONTAINING MILK PRODUCTS, CREME OR OILY LIQUORS. SOME FRUIT JUICES AND SOME WATERS MAY RENDER A FALSE POSITIVE RESULT.

Date rape, also known as “drug-facilitated sexual assault,” is any type of sexual activity that a person does not agree to. It may come from someone you know, someone may have just met, and/or someone thought you could trust.
Date rape drugs can make people become physically weak or pass out. This is why people who want to rape someone use them—because they leave individuals unable to protect themselves.

- Rohypnol (also known as roofies, forget-me-pill, and R-2) is a type of prescription pill known as a benzodiazepine—it’s chemically similar to drugs such as Valium or Xanax, but unlike these drugs, it is not approved for medical use in this country.
- It has no taste or smell and is sometimes colorless when dissolved in a drink.
- People who take it can feel very sleepy and confused and forget what happens after its effects kick in.
- It can also cause weakness and trouble breathing, and can make it difficult for those who have taken it to move their body.
- The effects of Rohypnol can be felt within 30 minutes of being drugged and can last for several hours.
- To prevent misuse of Rohypnol, the manufacturer recently changed the pill to look like an oblong olive green tablet with a speckled blue core. When dissolved in light-colored drinks, the new pills dye the liquid blue and alert people that their drink has been tampered with. Unfortunately, generic versions of Rohypnol may not contain the blue dye.
- GHB (also known as cherry meth, scoop, and goop) is a type of drug that acts as a central nervous system depressant and is prescribed for the treatment of narcolepsy (a sleep disorder).
- It can cause a person to throw up; it can also slow their heart rate and make it hard to breathe.
- At high doses, it can result in a coma or death.
- It's a tasteless, odorless drug that can be a powder or liquid. It’s colorless when dissolved in a drink.
- Mixing it with alcohol makes these effects worse.
- GHB can take effect in 15 to 30 minutes, and the effects may last for 3 to 6 hours.
- Ketamine (also known as cat valium, k-hole, and purple) is a dissociative anesthetic. That means it distorts perceptions of sight and sound, and makes a person feel detached from their environment and themselves. It also reduces pain and overall feeling. Like other anesthetic drugs, it's used during surgical procedures in both humans and animals.
- It's a tasteless, odorless drug that can be a powder or liquid.
- It can cause hallucinations and make people feel totally out of it.
- It can also increase heartbeat, raise blood pressure, and cause nausea.
- The effects of ketamine may last for 30 to 60 minutes.
It’s important to remember that all drugs affect how well your mind and body operate. In fact, alcohol is linked to far more date rapes than the drugs we’ve mentioned here. And nearly all drugs of abuse make people vulnerable to being taken advantage of—by impairing their judgment, reducing their reaction time, and clouding their thinking.
And as disgusting as it is to think about, when you don’t have your wits about you, someone may take that as an opportunity to push themselves on you.
How can you avoid date rape drugs?
If you're at a party where people are drinking alcohol, you should be aware that there could be predators hoping to make you drunk or vulnerable. No matter what you're drinking, even if it’s soda or juice, people can slip drugs in your drinks—so pour all drinks yourself and never leave them unattended (even if you have to take them into the bathroom with you).
Also, be sure to stick with your friends. There’s safety in numbers. But even if you leave your drink or leave your friends behind, know this for certain: if you are drugged and taken advantage of, it’s not your fault.

The incidence of spiked drinks among college students may be more common than anyone thought, a new study suggests. Among the questions asked of the students were: “Since the beginning of the fall term, how many times do you suspect or know that someone put a drug into your drink without your knowledge? “Since the beginning of the fall term, have you or someone you know put drugs into someone else’s drink on purpose? “What drug or drugs were used? The researchers also asked people who drugged others about their motives. In nearly a third of cases the reason was to facilitate some sort of sexual assault, but there were other motives, including, for fun, for vengeance and to see what would happen. Women were more likely than men to say they’d been the victims of spiking and also reported more negative consequences than men. Every two minutes “another American is sexually assaulted” according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), and 44% of the victims are under 18 years of age and 80% of the victims are under 30 years old. An estimated 2/3 of the rapists are known to the victim, yet 97% of the rapists “never spend a day in jail.” With the shocking statistics of cases where the rapist is known to the victim, it is easy to understand why people may wonder why the perpetrator is never even arrested.
